Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, with its ideology to provide quality education and extraordinary curriculum at undergraduate level, has served the purpose of benefiting the education sector of Pakistan. The Shifa College of Pharmaceutical Sciences is providing unique services and state-of-the-art facilities to its students according to international guidelines of Pharmacy education. At SCPS, various departments are working for provision of quality education of Pharmacy in relevance to the international key challenges as well as national context. The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry serves as the backbone of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The motivated and dedicated faculty of this department is committed to deliver basic and advanced information related to diverse areas of chemistry including physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, natural products chemistry and biological chemistry. In order to build up the research culture and to cope up with the market demands, SCPS has initiated M.Phil. program in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. A well-structured course outline and scientifically acclaimed instructional and assessment strategies would strengthen the cognitive abilities and practical skills in the younger generation and will enable the scholars to pursue translational research. Ultimately, it will help in identification of research gaps, validation of existing scientific approaches and attainment of impactful findings in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry. Independent or Interdisciplinary research would lead to better output and broad understanding of the drug discovery and development process. It will pave the way identification of new drug molecules, synthesis of pharmaceutical leads and pharmacophores and derivation of existing pharmacophores to enhance bioavailability and medicinal value. Additionally, the inculcation of High Throughput Screening and Computer Aided Drug Designing will promote the development and identification of novel drug molecules with extended pharmacological applications. These dynamic strategies will enable the scholars to nurture their scientific curiosity, revert intellectual deficit and improve the professional commitment.
The M.Phil. program in Pharmaceutical Chemistry is designed to produce graduates with critical analytical skills and perseverance to contribute to the benefit of humanity. These graduates would have the opportunity to work in academic and industrial sector for the maintenance of quality control of drug products, method development and validation as well as research and development of pharmaceutical products. Moreover, regulatory bodies and governmental agencies including Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and Drug Testing Labs (DTL) are also recipients of graduates having specialty in Pharmaceutical Chemistry
