SIST 2019

This year, the theme for SIST 2019 was “Broaden Your Horizons.” One must learn and open oneself up to other things rather than stick with one singular outlook. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon every day. We prefer people we think are similar to ourselves in religion, lifestyle or be it any facet of life. Understanding is a three edged sword. Your side, their side and the truth in the middle. You cannot hold on to your absolute truth every time. I believe, there is more to life than the side we choose to stand by. Once you broaden your perspective, it can be life enhancing. You must learn day by day, year by year to broaden your horizon and that’s what ultimately SIST 2019 is all about.

The two-day event took place in Quaid-e-Azam Auditorium, Faisal Masjid. With a sublime history of 8 years, Shifa Interscholastic Tournament is an event of its own kind. The zeal and dynamism has multiply with every passing year. SIST is a distinct platform which provides opportunity to participate in diverse competitions such as Art on Spot, Calligraphy, Photography, Short Film, Debates, Anasheed and the list goes on. A grand Prize Money was also set aside to award the champions of SIST 2019. Furthermore, a Giveaway was announced one day before SIST- a chance to win free tickets and likewise, those people who wanted to represent their institutions were made SIST Ambassadors. Following renowned personalities (Yusuf Chambers, Ovais Ahmed Mangalwala, Dr Osman Latif, Dr Fawad Kaiser, Mufti Najeeb Khan, Kamran Kiyani, Humaira S. Masihuddin) gave insightful talks in the second part of the day. All the sessions and lectures were recorded by Shifa Foundation.

“It was an honour for me to be able to head an event, this big and make SIST 2019 live up to the expectations of the people. The students who volunteered for SIST made an amazing team and working with them and knowing them was a sheer joy. I hope Shifaites will continue supporting the cause and make it bigger and better in the coming years.” (Fawad Alam Ansari, President of Shifa Student Society)

My personal experience at SIST 2019 was wonderful. Being a co-head for Calligraphy, I connected with people who radiated positive vibes the moment I met them. All the participants were excited and there was a desire to make the most of this event. Unaware of the surroundings, holding pens on their canvases and trying utmost to adorn the Quranic verses, this was definitely a sight worthwhile. Due to the integrated efforts of 200 team members on board, the objectives of SIST 2019 were accomplished successfully. More power to you Shifaites!!
May the blessings of love, peace and joy fill your life!
