Program Information:

Doctor of Philosophy in computer science requires candidates to take graduate level courses, pass comprehensive examination, pursue research in the selected area. Candidates are required to publish research papers in the journals belonging to approved and mentioned categories.

Program Objective

Following objectives are primary motives of this graduate program.

  1. Prepare students to have in-depth knowledge of selected domain, critical thinking, research investigations, comparative analysis using systematic methodologies.
  2. Prepare students to produce research for international journals and conferences.
  3. Empower students to conduct independent research.

Program Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills to select and employ suitable methodology in the research domain.
  2. Conduct research systematically in the focused area.
  3. Publish research papers in recognized journals and conferences.
  4. Produce knowledge, conduct independent research and supervise research.
  5. Self-critique research for improvements and possible extensions.

Program Scope

This program equips students with state-of-the-art research methodologies, latest tools and

technologies, in-depth knowledge of chosen research area, knowledge to critically evaluate and assess trade-off between different methodologies in solving research problems, identification of research gaps and formulation of research problems, publishing original research, and conducting and supervising research. The program cover courses on research methodologies (non-credit course available for those students who did not study previously) and elective courses in the relevant areas of the faculty. The successful candidates will be able to pursue jobs in the following areas:

  • Pursue research and development in different academic and industrial organizations.
  • Provide consultancy in the relevant research domains.
  • Develop skills and to equip others with the learned skills to supervise research.
  • Lead educational sector and industrial organizations for developing research policies and/or provide supervision

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must have earned Master degree (18 years of relevant education, preferably with Thesis) in a relevant subject, earned from a recognized university AND
  • At least 70% marks (in the Annual system) or CGPA of at least 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0)

Selection Criteria:

  • Admission is based on candidate’s performance in the following:
  • Minimum 60% marks and at least 50 percentile rank in NTS-Subject GAT or International GRE Subject Test (validity 2 years of declaration of the test results) OR Minimum 70% marks in university test AND

Interview (to assess research potential)

Semester Wise Breakup of Credit Hours (for completion of PhD in 3 years):

Students will need to take 18 credit hours of courses and 30 credit hours of research. Students can finish PhD in 3 years at minimum. However, the maximum allowed time to complete the PhD is 8 years. To complete a PhD in 3 years, a sample scheme of study has been presented below:
