As part of Community Oriented Medical Education, the Department of Community Medicine arranged a visit to the Rural Health Center (RHC) to help students understand the working of Pakistan’s health care delivery system.
Students of the Class of 2024, divided into two batches, visited RHC in Tarlai and Bara Kahu, located on the outskirts of Islamabad, on June 28, 2022, along with the faculty of Community Medicine.
At both RHCs, students visited different sections of the centre, including the Covid-19 vaccination centre, Tuberculosis Clinic, Expanded Program on Immunization, Gynecology/Obstetrics unit, laboratory and OPD clinics. They were shown the medicines available in the Pharmacy. Through the Dental set-up at Bara Kahu, students were familiarized with the dental health problems and the services available. They were also introduced to the working of digitalized reception.
Students actively participated during the visit, and their questions were answered by the RHC staff, Dr Sadia and Dr Aqsa. This trip proved beneficial for students in understanding Pakistan’s health system.
We thank Dr Fawad Khalid Khan, Additional DHO ICT, for facilitating the visit to both RHCs.
