A visit to the blood bank was arranged for the Class of 2026 in the HLS Module at Shifa International Hospital in 4 batches from 4-5th July 2022. The purpose of this visit was to create awareness among Year 1 MBBS students regarding the importance of blood donation and blood transfusion. Students were briefed about the prerequisites for blood donation, collection, storage and its issuance before transfusion. They were shown different sections of the blood bank. The steps of centrifugation were explained. Also, the importance of the record-keeping of blood donors was highlighted.

The doctors and staff at Shifa Blood Bank answered all students’ queries and gave them a thorough briefing about all the processes. Students found this visit helpful and inspirational; a few donated their blood too. The visit was organized by the Department of Community Medicine, SCM. We are grateful to Prof. Dr. Ayesha Junaid, Consultant Haematologist, for this visit’s smooth conduct.
