In order to give undergraduate medical students of Class of 2022 a feeling of visit to the hospital, in the present COVID-19 pandemic, a virtual visit to the Dialysis Centre of Shifa International Hospital was arranged on August 10, 2021 for an hour for students of Year 2 in the KUB Module.
Dr. Sajida Naseem, Associate Professor along with Dr. Saima Rafi from Department of Community Medicine visited the Dialysis Unit. There they interacted with Nurse with 10 years’ experience in this unit regarding the basic pre requisites required by a patient undergoing Dialysis, the machine being used, the immediate side effects, the post dialysis care, duration and cost per session related to hemodialysis.
Later Dr. Sajida Naseem interviewed one female patient after taking informed consent. The patient explained her 10 years’ experience of Haemodialysis at 2 different centres in Pakistan. She also described her quality of life before and after each session of dialysis.
The students were touched by the patients experience and found the virtual visit very useful in the COVID-19 situation.
