Dr. Qamar Mahmood is Assistant Professor, Head, Department of Computing, and involved as a researcher in different research groups related to Semantic Computing, Ontology Engineering, Data Science, and Cyber Security, at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU). He has played the role of coordinator in the field of Attribute based Encryption in a European Union (Erasmus mundus) funded project about rural healthcare in Pakistan. This project was a collaborative effort of three universities: Capital University of Science and Technology, Islamabad, Comsats University, Wah campus, and Islamia University, Bahawalpur. Dr. Qamar has an overall academic experience of 24 years. He has worked as an Assistant Professor for 12 years at Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST), Islamabad. Before that he has worked as Assistant Professor at Barani Institute of Information Technology (BIIT), a joint venture with PMAS Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi for 11 years. He has also industry level experience of 4 years working in a US based healthcare organization (MTBC) as a Lead Software Engineer on IT Healthcare projects specifically on HL7 Interfacing for different US based systems. Dr. Qamar has received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2019 from Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST), Islamabad, in the field of Semantic Computing/Ontology Engineering. Before that he has earned a degree in M.Sc. in Computer Engineering in 2006 from Centre of Advanced Studies in Engineering (CASE) affiliated with University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila. He has also completed his M.Sc. in Computer Science from Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad previously. Dr. Qamar has been actively involved in research in fields of Cyber Security, Ontology Engineering, Text Mining, Information Extractions, and Multimedia content processing. He has supervised 9 MS Theses and is currently involved in supervision and co-supervision of MS and PhD students at STMU. He is a former member of Centre of Distributed and Semantic Computing (CDSC) research group at CUST. Dr. Qamar has served as member of technical review committee of different national conference such as ICCoR 2023-24, IBCAST 2023-24, and ICET 2017. He has also served as research articles reviewer for IEEE Access journal. He has successfully supervised 100 plus Final Year Projects (FYPs) offered for undergraduate level students at different universities like: BIIT, PMAS Arid University, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU), and CUST. These projects were from different domains of computer science like Medical Image Processing, Global Positioning Systems, Geographic Information Systems, and many broad areas of Information Technology. He has taught more than 25 subject courses at undergraduate and graduate level in his academic career at different universities. Dr. Qamar in his current position at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University is striving for administrative, teaching, and research related activities for facilitation of students to achieve the goal of nation building (Tameer-e-Millat).
