Shifa college of Medicine conducted a session to observe solidarity with Kashmir on February 12, 2024. The session was supervised by Prof Dr. Ashraf Hussain and organized by Dr Umme Kulsoom Khattak. The students of second and third year MBBS actively participated and attended the session along with the esteemed faculty.

The session was hosted by Minahel Ahmed and started with Recitation from Holy Quran by Muhammad Muneeb. It was followed by observing one minute silence to pay tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir. The guest speaker Prof Muhammad Sanaullah Khan (Associate Professor Pakistan Studies and Head of Social sciences) gave a brief background highlighting the different agreements, along with history of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the role of United Nations to solve the dispute. He also discussed the current situation in the region, human rights violations including physical and mental violence and restrictions on freedom of speech.

It was followed by Milli naghma by Arooj Asghar and Naimal ul Huda. A motivational speech by Abdullah Niazi was delivered with enthusiasm and passion showing solidarity with Kashmir. An informational documentary regarding the historic events leading to dispute and its significance was shown to highlight the importance of supporting our Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their struggle for freedom.

The session ended with momentous remarks by Prof Dr Muhammed Amir, Dean Faculty health sciences. He emphasized the worth of supporting peace and stand with the right and justice, not only in Kashmir but worldwide. It was highlighted that its basic human right of Kashmiri’s to live and practice their religion according to their choice and have right to self-determination and freedom.
