The Department of Health Professions Education, Shifa College of Medicine, held an Educational Development Seminar titled ‘SCM through the lens of WFME’ on Saturday, 24th September 2022. The seminar aimed to familiarize the faculty with the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) standards, compare them with Shifa College of Medicine’s standards, identify gaps in SCM practice and recommend strategies for their solutions. Pre-seminar meetings were held with the faculty members in small groups to get their input. A faculty member from DHPE moderated each group.
On the day of the seminar, Professor Riffat Shafi, Head of the Department of Health Professions Education, gave a comprehensive overview of the WFME standards and highlighted their significance to the audience. This was followed by presentations by Dr Muneeza Aamir Sami, Dr Mahrukh Durrani, Dr Hareem Fatima and Dr Shazia Irum. They shared the recommendations for deficiencies in specific areas identified by their respective groups. In the end, there was a panel discussion session comprising Vice Chancellor Shifa Tameeer e Millat University Prof. Dr Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Dean Faculty of Health Sciences and Principal SCM Dr Muhammad Amir, Prof Dr Riffat Shafi and Advisor Department of Student Affairs Dr Aamer Nazeer. The panel experts answered questions from the audience, and the seminar concluded with a Dua by Dr Muhammad Amir.
