Workshop on Trigger Point Management through Dry Needling:

The hands on workshop “Trigger point management through Dry Needling” was conducted exclusively for 10th Semester Students of DPT by Head of Department DRS STMU Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Sajjad on 15th December, 2022 at Max Spine Rehab Center, Max Health Hospital Islamabad. He is most skillful and renowned person in the field of Physical therapy with latest skills and knowledge. Every student had actively participated, they learned the management of different conditions through dry needling in this workshop.

We are thankful to the workshop resource person, for sharing his most updated knowledge and sound Clinical practice skills.

Educational Visit to Advance Hearing Clinic:

Educational visit to Advance hearing clinic was planned for 5th and 7th semester BS Audiology students of Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University Islamabad by Mr. Muhammad Abdul Sami and Mr. Abdul Moiz Mr. Muhammad Abdul Sami and Mr. Abdul Moiz both are skilled and renowned persons in the BS-Audiology field with latest skills and knowledge.

In this Clinical visit students learned about comprehensive diagnostic tests and evidence based rehabilitation. The main purpose of the visit was to focus on the Electro-Physiological tests of hearing (ABR and ASSR) and programming of various digital hearing aids.

Educational Visit to Paraplegic Center Peshawar:

DPT 8th semester students of DRS visited the paraplegic center Peshawar. The one of the best Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Institute in Pakistan with the vision of “Enabling people with spinal cord injuries, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of the country to their maximum physical & psychosocial capacity within the limits of their physical and environmental limitations; Transforming society by optimizing functional mobility minimizing barriers, building skills and encouraging inclusion, to improve human experience.” PCP provides free of cost, comprehensive physical rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, orthotic management, psychological counselling, recreational activities, skills building, community re-integration, provision of custom-made wheelchairs and adaptive/supportive equipment, follow up services including minor home modifications, and medical and nursing care to people with spinal cord injuries from throughout Pakistan. In collaboration with ICRC, PCP has also established a state-of-the-art facility to treat children born with club foot deformity free of cost.

The purpose of this knowledgeable visit was to enhance the clinical exposure of the rehab students of STMU and provide them with latest bed side patient teaching in other institute/hospital as well.

Islamic Scholar Session with STMU Faculty and Students:

A session was conducted by Raja Zia-ul-Haq (CEO, Youth Club) to give an eye-opening reminder, the topic of the session was to “Turn to Allah before you return to Allah”. The Youth Club, founded by Raja Zia ul Haq, is a non-profit organization working on ethical and moral values for youth, providing a platform for educated youth and families to practice their energies and potential on the Islamic way for their betterment. The Islamic and ethical values are taught in these sessions to enhance the moral and spiritual values in Islamic ways or guidance and betterment for the humanity and wellbeing. This Islamic session was very productive for the students and faculty of Rehabilitation department.

Multidisciplinary Approach in Cerebral Palsy:

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, STMU has arranged a poster competition and session on Multidisciplinary Approach in Cerebral Palsy in which experts from different professions were invited to share their expertise in the management of CP child. The Chief Guest was Dr. Kashif Khan (Associate General Manger Rehabilitation Department, SIH) and Guest speakers were Dr. Mazhar Hussain Raja (Consultant Pediatrician, SIH), Dr. Qamar Mahmood (HOD, Neuro Rehab Specialist, NIRM), Dr. Reezan Khan (Consultant Nutritionist HOD, SIH), Dr. Faiza Badar (Speech Pathologist Manager Rehabilitation Department, SIH), Mr. Izaz Khan (Specialist Prosthetics & Orthotics, SIH) and Mr. Muhammad Aman Abbasi (Founder of Ask an Occupational Therapist Special Education Services, AOT). The event was held on 25th November, 2022 managed by Dr. Maria Sajid under the supervision of Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Sajjad (HOD, DRS). It was an interactive session; question/answers were held through which the students learned a lot and get the knowledge directly from the professionals.

Assessment and Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction:

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, STMU organized a hands-on workshop for the students of DPT 10th semester titled “Assessment and Treatment of TMJ dysfunction” by facilitator Dr. Samina Ghulam, Senior Physical Therapist AFIRM, Rawalpindi. This activity was conducted for our final year students to enhance their skills in managing a patient with TMJ. The main aim of this activity was to provide the basic clinical knowledge and practical approach towards the most neglected joint. Most commonly this joint dysfunction occurs during dental procedures or it is affected due to muscular imbalance. This workshop was accredited against CME’s 3.00 by the SCOPE, Shifa international Hospital Islamabad, Pakistan. Students were highly grateful to be a part of this workshop and gave a very positive feedback to learn more in future.
