As part of the teaching of Occupational Health in the module of LMS in Year 1, students of the Class of 2026 visited Ittehad Steel Mills, located in the industrial area of sector I-9 Islamabad. The visit took place on 24^th May and 1^st June 2022, during which the students were divided into two batches.

The Department of Community Medicine organized this visit to familiarize students with the subject of occupational health by giving them exposure to the work environment of a steel mill. The visit was supervised by Dr Umme Kulsoom Khattak and Ms Sana Mangrio.

Mr Pervaiz, the administrator at the steel mills, assisted the whole visit. The site had a re-rolling steel operation where the staff worked with heavy industrial equipment and furnace. The MBBS students observed these occupational tasks to gain insight into the potential occupational hazards, diseases and role of personal protective equipment.   

The students were given a video presentation on the industrial process, followed by refreshments. In the end, students presented a souvenir.
