Islamabad, 26-02-2024 – In a proactive initiative to enhance oral health awareness, the Department of Community Medicine Shifa College of Medicine organized a visit to street children and special children schools which is part of their community based rotation. Today’s visit was mainly focused on oral hygiene. Students of Year 3 received training on oral hygiene, common oral issues, and the examination of oral cavities before heading to these schools.
The activity began with thorough examination of students’ oral health by the medical students, providing them with hands-on experience to develop their skills under supervision. The initiative not only aimed to promote oral health in the community but also served as a valuable learning opportunity for the future healthcare professionals.
Following the examination, students actively demonstrated tooth brushing techniques to the school children. This educational session focused on preventive measures, emphasizing the importance of regular brushing and overall oral care.
In a significant collaborative effort, the Community Medicine Department partnered with a private dental company to provide 800 oral dental kits to all students at the community schools. These kits included essential dental hygiene items, reinforcing the importance of maintaining good oral health habits from a young age.
Dr. Sajida Naseem, Community Medicine Rotation Director appreciated the department’s inter-sectoral collaboration as part of their social responsibility.
