An educational development session was hosted by the Department of Health Professions Education at Shifa College of Medicine on May 25th, 2024 titled “Artificial Intelligence in Medicine”. It was designed for faculty members as part of the ongoing faculty development program.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Tanvir Afzal, Director and Professor at Shifa School of Computing and Director Campus STMU, Park Road Campus. Dr. Afzal, an expert in data science, scientometrics, information retrieval, and visualization, provided in-depth insights into the application of AI in medical practice and research.

Dr. Afzal discussed how AI is revolutionizing medical education for both students and faculty. AI-powered tools are increasingly being integrated into the global curriculum to enhance learning experiences and outcomes for both faculty and students. AI-driven simulations and virtual patients offer realistic, interactive scenarios that can help develop clinical skills and decision-making abilities in a risk-free environment.

The seminar also highlighted AI’s role in advancing research capabilities within medical education. AI algorithms are being used to analyze large datasets, uncovering new insights and trends that inform evidence-based teaching practices and curriculum development.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where faculty members discussed the practical applications and future potential of AI in their respective areas.
