Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology (PhD CP)

The PhD in Clinical Psychology program has launched in 2023. As per policy of HEC, the minimum period for completion of PhD shall be three years from the date of registration and the maximum period shall be eight years.

Admission Requirements

  • The candidates must have studied Clinical Psychology/Psychology as a subject at MS/M.Phil. Level to be eligible for admission in PhD in Clinical Psychology.
  • Minimum of 18 years of education in the relevant field and also granted equivalence by the HEC.
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0 in the semester system) or First Division (in the annual system) in the most recent degree obtained is required, whether such a degree was obtained from Pakistani or foreign universities.
  • All applicants of the PhD program shall be required to take one of the following subject related admissions test:
  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) test administered by the Education Testing Service;
  • A graduate admission test administered by the Education Testing Council;
  • With the permission of the HEC, an equivalent test developed by the university, or by another university, for admissions to graduate programs.
  • Applicants are required to submit a statement of purpose/Research proposal, which is an integral part of the application form.

Merit Calculation for PhD Clinical Psychology

  • SSC + HSSC + BS + MS/Mphill = 30% 
  • Entry Test Marks = 30%
  • Interview = 40%

  • Elective Course (01)= 03CH
  • Internship (02) =06CH
  • Dissertation  = 30CH

Scheme of Studies

The following core courses and electives must be successfully completed by the doctoral student along with pre-doctoral internship. Course work of 21 credit hours is required to be completed and followed by a comprehensive examination for granting candidacy PhD researcher.

  • 3 CH of an Elective courses are to be studied by the Scholars.
  • A compulsory course of Ethics in Clinical Practice is to be studied by the Scholars in 3rd Semester.
  • Clinical practice in terms of Internship /practical’s is compulsory in the 3rd and 4th semesters. Dissertation/ Thesis shall start in 4th semester and continue to 6th semester and above.
