On a crisp morning, with the green and white flag fluttering in the breeze, Shifa College of Medicine stood proudly adorned, symbolizing the nation’s pride and progress as it celebrated Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day. The flag-raising ceremony, a blend of patriotism and academic excellence, resonated deeply, reflecting the nation’s journey. The ceremony began with a moment of calm as Dr. Sajida Naseem from the Department of Community Medicine invited Taha jahangir Year 1 student, to recite verses from the Holy Quran. This was followed by flag hoisting ceremony by VC, STMU Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal and Dean Faculty of health Sciences Prof. Dr. Mohammed Amir. The National Anthem was played.
Next, Dr. Saima Rafi, Assistant Professor Department of Community Medicine, took the stage. Her words underscored the importance of producing not only skilled healthcare professionals but also compassionate individuals who drive positive societal change. This was followed by milli naghma by Zoha Alvi & Arooj Asghar, and a speech by Rabia Waris, Year 1 MBBS. Video competition on the theme of ‘My commitment to Pakistan’ was displayed. Students, faculty and staff all participated in this competition. Cash prizes were awarded.
Next, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Iqbal and the Dean of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Mohammed Amir addressed the gathering. Their speeches emphasized the importance of channeling education towards the holistic development of the country, aligning with the principles on which the nation was founded. As the ceremony reached its peak, the entire assembly, with hands over hearts, joined in a fervent chant of “Pakistan Zindabad!”
