It is a matter of great honor and prestige for me to welcome you to the Department of Biosciences; an integral part of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical and Allied Health Sciences at the Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, Islamabad. The Faculty of Pharmaceutical and Allied Health Sciences over the years has established itself as one the most resilient faculties of the University; both in terms of its academic, and research portfolio. Its offerings include research centered and integrated post-graduate and under-graduate programs designed to address the national needs of the country while advancing the current practices and understanding of drug design, discovery and development, natural product chemistry, multiple medical/clinical technological domains, microbiology, virology, biotechnology, and bioinformatics. This is achieved essentially through the cutting-edge research equipment/labs and practical integration with state-of-the-art Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited teaching hospital (Shifa International Hospitals Ltd.). The Faculty of Pharmaceutical and Allied Health Sciences has progressed from a single program offering department in 2016, to a multiple college, departments, undergraduate and post graduate offering entity. This remarkable growth was only possible due to the alignment of curriculum with current research, international growing trends, commitment and dedication of faculty, internationally accepted teaching and assessment modalities, and the recognition of students towards the fields of Biological Sciences. The programs offered by the Department of Biosciences at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University are valued due to their unique and distinctive integration with Applied Pharmaceutical, Allied Health Sciences; essentially covering the major fields of Biological Sciences i.e., Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Plant Sciences, Natural product chemistry, Drug design discovery and development, and Bioinformatics etc. Given the precedented history and trajectory of development; the faculty shall incorporate exciting new programs and research streams in the future as well, necessarily to meet the demand of both the market and development of skillset of its students. The faculty has recruited some of the very best scholars and foreign qualified teachers through an exhaustive process of selection in terms of quality research experience and teaching assignments. Research conducted by our faculty is routinely published in some of the high impact factor and world class Journals of relevant domains. Currently, this Faculty is one of the few in our country that offers comprehensively integrated degree programs at BS, MS/MPhil, and PhD levels. Our academic programs are tailored to meet the needs of life sciences in the region and across the world. We will make every effort to create a conducive learning and teaching environment and see that the students are able to unfold their potential, closely interact with the faculty, and visiting scientist from the academia and industry time-to-time, and participate actively in various extracurricular activities. We remain committed to extending the scope of biosciences, and preparing prospect leaders to best serve the needs of the nation.
