PG Certificate in Biological Safety and Risk Management

The Department of Biosciences (under the Faculty of Pharmaceutical & Allied Health Sciences), Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University Islamabad is offering a 6-weeks Postgraduate Certificate entitled “Biological Safety and Risk Management”. The course is designed to equip learners with a comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles of biorisk (biosafety/biosecurity) management system required for containment laboratories. It will specially focus on risk- and evidence-based Biorisk Management (BRM) approach adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The course aims to equip learners with the following insights:

• Perform biorisk assessment by identifying hazards, determining risk levels and appropriate risk mitigation measures.
• Plan and develop appropriate methods for addressing biorisk, decontamination, and waste management as well as occupational health to minimize incidents and accidents at the workplace.
• Apply best practices for safe handling of biological agents in laboratories using the risk-based approach of WHO.
