Dr. Ataullah Khan Mahmood

Head of Department
Department of Shariah & Law

The Department of Shariah and Law operates within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in accordance with the statutes of Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University. The department’s mission is to conduct research and disseminate knowledge in Shariah and conventional law. Its curriculum and teaching strategies deliberately integrate both legal traditions to achieve these goals.

The department currently offers one undergraduate program: the five-year LL.B. Shariah and Law. The program combines modern and traditional approaches to develop graduates who possess legal knowledge, analytical skills, and the ability to reach sound judgments. Graduates will be prepared for careers in the judiciary, advocacy, prosecution, investigation agencies, university teaching, and other public and private sector roles.

Teaching is provided by qualified, research-oriented faculty in a supportive academic environment. Instructional resources include a well-stocked library with local and international titles and primary sources. As part of the curriculum, students in their final semesters undertake court visits, including the Supreme Court, high courts, and lower courts. The department also organizes annual visits to the parliament and other relevant institutions.
