The Department of Shariah & Law, in collaboration with the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, organized a special program to observe Youm-e-Istehsaal Kashmir on 5th August 2026.

The program commenced with an introductory address by Dr. Ataullah Khan Mahmood, Head, Department of Shariah & Law, who highlighted the significance of Youm-e-Istehsaal and emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the longstanding Kashmir issue.

The Chief Guest, Brigadier Dr. Saif Malik (Tamgha-i-Imtiaz), Former Director, India Study Center, Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad, delivered an insightful talk on the Kashmir dispute and the challenges faced by the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir. He discussed the historical, political, and strategic dimensions of the Kashmir issue and highlighted the continued struggle of the Kashmiri people for their fundamental rights and self-determination.

Prof. Dr. Amna Mahmood, Dean, FSSH, STMU, also addressed the gathering and shed light on the significance of observing Youm-e-Istehsaal. She emphasized the need for academic dialogue, awareness, and collective efforts to understand the Kashmir issue and its broader regional implications.

Faculty members from **various departments of the University** actively participated in the event, reflecting the university community’s commitment to promoting awareness and meaningful discussion on important national and international issues.

The session concluded with an engaging **Question & Answer session**, providing participants with an opportunity to discuss the Kashmir issue, seek clarification, and exchange views with the speakers.

Dr. Ataullah Khan Mahmood, Head of the Department of Shariah and Law, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, along with the faculty members of the department, had the honor of meeting Prof. Dr. Aziz-ur-Rehman to extend heartfelt congratulations on his appointment as Chairman of the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO).

Prof. Dr. Aziz-ur-Rehman, a distinguished legal scholar and a valued member of the Department of Shariah and Law’s Board of Studies, has rendered remarkable services to legal education, research, and institutional development. His appointment to this prestigious national position is a matter of immense pride for the Department of Shariah and Law and the entire STMU community.

During the meeting, Dr. Ataullah Khan Mahmood and the faculty members conveyed their best wishes and expressed confidence that Prof. Dr. Aziz-ur-Rehman’s visionary leadership will further strengthen Pakistan’s intellectual property system, promote innovation, and contribute to the advancement of research, creativity, and legal excellence across the country. The faculty also expressed their hope that Prof. Dr. Aziz-ur-Rehman will continue to share his vast expertise with future legal professionals by teaching Intellectual Property Law to the students of the Department of Shariah and Law, inspiring them with his practical experience and scholarly insight.

The visit reflected the department’s deep respect for Prof. Dr. Aziz-ur-Rehman’s invaluable contributions to academia and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening academic collaboration with distinguished scholars and professionals in the field of law.
