The class of 2024 visited the Hospital Waste Management facility of Shifa International Hospital Islamabad on September 2, 2022. The Department of Community Medicine in the Locomotor System and Skin (LMS) module organised the visit in Year 3.

The students were first explained the types of hospital waste, the significance and use of different coloured bins for waste disposal and the process of hospital waste collection, segregation, transportation and disposal. They were then taken to different storage units where biomedical waste undergoes different disposal processes. In the end, students were taken to the Incinerator plant, where they explained its working.

Through this visit, the students learned about proper handling, segregation techniques and disposal of hospital waste as part of infection control teaching.
