As Shifa college of Medicine celebrates Pakistan 78th Independence Day, a guest lecture on, “Journey of Creation of Pakistan:1857-1947” was held on Tuesday August 13, 2024, for the third year MBBS students.  The lecture was organised by Dr Umme Kulsoom Khattak under the supervision of Prof Dr Ashraf Hussain in longitudinal theme of Pakistan Studies. Our guest speaker Mr. Muhammad Ahmad Zafar is a renowned educationist and philanthropist, with an academic background in computer science and a deep passion for voluntary work. Along with managing the Mishkat Welfare Trust, he has the privilege of being the director of Olives School and Islah Public School. He has the prestige of teaching Seerah in Al-Huda with keen interest in Islam, history and current affairs. Dr. Zafar started the session enthusiastically by discussing the importance of history. He highlighted the historical events and key figures that led to the establishment of Pakistan. The lecture delved into the socio-political context under British rule, the pivotal roles of leaders like Allama Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and the significant milestones, including the Lahore Resolution of 1940. The lecture also emphasized the immense struggles and sacrifices during the partition, culminating in Pakistan’s emergence as an independent nation on August 14, 1947. This lecture’s objective was to understand the significance of historical events and values upon which Pakistan was founded. Students as future leaders were motivated, to carry forward the spirit of resilience, unity, and dedication that defined the creation of Pakistan. Dr. Umme Kulsoom concluded the session by urging the students to embrace the lessons of history and actively participate in constructive activities. She emphasized the importance of practicing honesty and justice in their daily lives, as these values are essential for building a strong and prosperous nation.
