Shifa College of Medicine organized it’s the first ever “Students’ week” from 19-23 February 2024, under the supervision of Prof Dr Ashraf Hussain, Chief organizing Committee. It was an event “By the students – For the students”. The student’s week was steered by Dr Sadia Syed, Acting, Co-chairperson “Laison Committee”. The Inauguration Ceremony, organized by Dr Umme Kulsoom Khattak Secretory Organizing Committee was held on Monday February 19, 2024. It was attended by both the faculty and students.
MBBS students were grouped for the first time in the history of SCM into four Houses; these were named after the founders and pioneers of SCM, Dr. Zaheer Ahmad, Dr. Muhammad Amin, Dr Qamar Alam and Dr.Muhammad Ata. Students actively participated in electing the Captains and Vice Captains by casting votes a week prior to commencement of student week inauguration.
The session began with Recitation from Holy Quran by Muhammad Muneeb Shahid. A warm and welcome hosting was done by Zahira Rushan, Minahil Rashid and Afia Sultan. It was followed by beautiful poetry of Dr Sadia Syed, paying tribute to the four legends of Shifa in a quatrain. The striking essence of the quatrain was depicted in its mesmerizing portrayal, where the name of each founding father was enshrined within every stanza.
Each of the four Captains displayed remarkable spirit as they introduced and represented their respective houses. Their passionate introductions set the stage for a lively event. Subsequently, the President and Vice President of SCM's eleven student societies took the spotlight, unveiling a meticulously planned series of events for the week. Their articulate introductions not only highlighted their dedication but also emphasized the fascinating and thrilling activities happening in this student’s week.
The Vice Chancellor of Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, Prof Dr Iqbal khan inaugurated the students’ week. He delivered a compelling address, underscoring the pivotal role and intrinsic value of para-curricular activities in enhancing the academic experience. Following his speech, Professor Dr. Muhammad Amir, the esteemed Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, shared enlightening remarks, further emphasizing the profound impact of such activities on holistic education. The session concluded with Dua.
