I came from a background of a traditional system of medical education. Being part of a conventional system, I never found myself satisfied with the teaching and learning standards we are offering to our undergraduate medical students. Something was missing! Perhaps quality education! My interest in medical education became even more intense when I got to know about the latest global developments in this field. I started looking for these courses being offered locally and this is how I got to know about the MHPE program offered by STMU.
That’s how my journey at STMU started as an MHPE student. Throughout the entire program, I found our Vice-chancellor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal khan, and the entire team very enthusiastic. All the contact sessions and the tasks assigned to us changed the entire spectrum of my vision not only as a teacher but as a learner too. The entire program is dedicated to the latest developments in the art of teaching and learning, assessment methods and their impact on learning and dynamics of curriculum development and evaluation, and research methodologies and ethics to name a few.
Meanwhile, I requested our VC if they can allow me to personally observe these activities being conducted at SCM. I am grateful to him that he provided me with an opportunity for one month elective program. I was allowed to observe their teaching/ learning strategies, how to conduct quality assessments, meetings for shortcomings and suggestions for improvement, and their focus on the ethical development of learners to produce not only knowledgeable doctors but good humanitarians in society as well. I found this opportunity very enlightening and the entire faculty and staff were very welcoming at each stage.
Thanks to the entire team of the MHPE program for their generous support at each stage. I highly recommend this program to all those educators who are looking to incorporate quality education in their institutes and groom our doctors to meet international standards.
