On 30th and 31st August 2023, a Two-Days Hands-on-Training Workshop was held on “Building the Capacity of Laboratory Professionals in Risk Assessment. The New WHO Approach”. The workshop was organized by the Department of Biosciences, STMU in collaboration with the Pakistan Biological Safety Association (PBSA) and Health Security Partners (HSP), USA.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Patron-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Tausif A. Rajput. In the inaugural session, guest of honour was the Chairman of Shifa International Hospital, Dr. Habib Ur Rehman. The training activities were facilitated by Internationally Certified Biosafety Professionals including Dr. Javed Muhammed, Dr. Samreen Sarwar, Dr. Tahir Usman, Dr. Faheem Shehzad and Dr. Faouzia Tanveer Mirza.
Around 40 professionals from academia/laboratory/research institutions from different cities across Pakistan participated in this training. They all partook in group activities and practices for the safety and security of the personnel, the community and the environment.
The closing ceremony of the workshop was graced by Dr. Raisa Gul (Dean, Faculty of Nursing) and Prof. Dr. Tausif A. Rajput (Dean FPAHS). The participants of the workshop gave positive evaluation of the program and stated that they would integrate the lessons learned from the workshop in their respective institutes. This workshop was organized under the HSP Centers of Excellence (CoE) in Biorisk Management Project grant acquired by Dr. Faouzia Tanveer Mirza, Department of Biosciences STMU.
