The Department of Community Medicine, Shifa College of Medicine held a successful Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar on October 22, 2024. This initiative brought together healthcare educators and third-year medical students for an informative and interactive session led by Dr. Arooj Akram, Women Health Awareness Lead at Shifa International Hospital.
Dr. Arooj addressed the students on critical topics including the latest statistics and prevalence of breast cancer and debunked common myths surrounding the disease. Her engaging approach enabled students to gain a deeper understanding of breast cancer’s impact and the misconceptions that hinder awareness and early detection.
The seminar placed a strong emphasis on training these future doctors to be advocates for preventive health. By fostering a well-informed approach to screening and educating patients about breast cancer, the students were prepared to guide at-risk populations toward effective preventive strategies.
This seminar reflects the Department of Community Medicine’s commitment to equipping young professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to address critical public health issues and promote awareness for a healthier future.
