Shifa College of Medicine, Pakistan, recently hosted a series of thought-provoking lectures to mark the one-year commemoration of the ongoing genocide and warfare in Palestine. The lecture titled “History and Significance of Palestine,” was organized by Dr. Umme Kulsoom Khattak under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ashraf Hussain as part of the longitudinal theme of Pakistan Studies. These lectures were conducted in classes of first 3 years of MBBS on October 7, 9 and 11, 2024. The lectures were delivered by Mr. Muhammad Ahmad Zafar, a distinguished educationist and philanthropist. With an academic background in computer science, Mr. Zafar is known for his dedication to voluntary work. He currently serves as the director of both Olives School and Islah Public School and manages the Mishkat Welfare Trust. Additionally, he has had the honor of teaching Seerah at Al-Huda Institute, bringing a deep understanding of Islam, history, and current affairs to his presentations. The lectures aimed to increase awareness about the historical and spiritual significance of Masjid e Aqsa and Palestine, emphasizing its value in the Islamic world. His main emphasis was on, “Why Palestine is important for us?”. Mr. Zafar competently supported his insights with references from the Quran and Hadith, providing a comprehensive understanding of the significance of Qibla-e-Awal for Muslims and its pivotal place in Islamic history. The sessions were both informative and emotionally stirring, offering attendees a renewed sense of faith while highlighting the struggles and injustices faced by Palestinians. This lecture series had a profound lasting impact on the audience, leaving them with increased awareness of the ongoing atrocities in Palestine while deepening their understanding of Palestine’s plight and fostering a deeper appreciation of its significance within the Islam.
