In reference to the World Suicide Prevention Day for the students of the third year, batch 2024, Dr Umme Kulsoom, Assistant Professor of Community Medicine, Shifa College of Medicine, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU), during her LMS module, organised a poster competition on the topic “Preservation of life”.
In addition to inculcating teamwork among the students, this competition helped them understand the importance of mental health, emotional support from peers, fighting the stigma and learning the strategies to ensure mental well-being. The class was divided into twelve groups for this competition, and the whole class participated with zeal and enthusiasm to spread awareness in the college through their work.
On Tuesday, 18th of October 2022, during the module of Dr Sadia Syed, Assistant Professor Forensic (STMU), a small ceremony was organised to present the student’s work and distribute the certificates to the winning groups. The ceremony was hosted by Dr Waqas Rabbani, Assistant Professor of Behavioural Sciences (STMU). It was attended by Prof Dr Muhammad Amir -Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (STMU), Maj Gen (r) Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam -Advisor Postgraduate Studies and Research (STMU), and Prof Dr Fouzia Sadiq -Director of Research (STMU).
The winners were called onto the stage to explain their work to their peers and guests and given certificates for the first three positions by Prof. Dr Muhammad Amir. The ceremony concluded with remarks from Prof Dr Muhammad Amir and Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam, where they appreciated students’ work and encouraged them to care for their and their peers’ mental health.
