11th Annual Shifa Scholars’ Day, 2022

The 11th Annual Scholars’day 2022 was held on September 26, 2022, through a hybrid mode at the National level at Shifa College of Medicine. Fifty-three undergraduate students from eleven Medical and Dental colleges participated in the event. The institutes included Rawalpindi Medical University, Foundation University School of Health Sciences, Rashid Latif Medical College, Dow International Medical College, Central Park Medical College, Islamic International Medical College, Islamic International Dental College, HITEC Institute of Medical Sciences, Federal Medical and Dental College. Shifa College of Medicine and Shifa College of Dentistry.

The poster presentations were divided into three themes; Public Health, Clinical Health Sciences and Medical Education. Chairpersons of CHS Prof. Dr. Zafar Rabbani and BHS Prof. Dr. Ashraf Hussain were the guest of honour. The event started with Year 2 student Saad Malik reciting the Holy Quran. Dr. Sajida Naseem, Chairperson Research Committee, gave an overview of the evolution of the Annual Shifa Scholars’ day and its expanding scope in the last three years from Regional to National level and Physical to Hybrid competition, including the dental students.

Vice Chancellor, STMU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Khan and Dean Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Mohammed Amir gave the prizes to the competition winners. Syed Tehseen Haider from Rawalpindi Medical University, Fatima Faraz from Rawalpindi Medical University and Syed Muhammad Mehmood Abbas from Shifa Medical College received first, second and third positions, respectively. A cash prize of Rs. 15,000, 12,000 and 8,000 were awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders. Certificate of participation was awarded to all presenters.

In the end, the Judges and Chairperson Research Committee were presented shields. A certificate of appreciation was awarded to the organizing team, including faculty of the Community Medicine department, ushers and administration staff. The event concluded on a good note with enthusiasm to continue such events to build interest in students in research.
