Shifa College of Medicine conducted a session to observe solidarity with Kashmir on 6th February 2023. The session was organised by Dr Umme Kulsoom and supervised by Prof Ashraf Hussain. The students of first and third-year MBBS actively participated and attended the session along with the faculty.
The session started with a recitation from the Holy Quran. The guest speaker Prof Muhammad SanaUllah Khan (Associate Professor of Pakistan Studies and Head of Social Sciences), gave a brief background and shared the 200 years old history of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including the role of the United Nations. He also highlighted the current situation in the region, and human rights violations, including physical and mental violence and restrictions on freedom of speech, followed by students’ speeches in Urdu and English.
Students participated actively in Poems and poetry showing enthusiasm and solidarity with Kashmir. In the end, a documentary highlighted the importance of supporting our Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their struggle for freedom. It was emphasised that it is the fundamental human right of Kashmiris to live and practice their religion according to their choice and right to self-determination.
