Shifa College of Medicine commemorated Youm-e-Tashakkur and Youm-e-Takbeer on May 27, 2025, as a tribute to Pakistan’s achievements and a symbol of national unity and solidarity.
On May 28, 1998, when Pakistan successfully conducted its first nuclear tests in response to regional threats, establishing itself as the first Muslim nuclear power. This monumental achievement is celebrated annually as Youm-e-Takbeer (Day of Greatness), symbolizing Pakistan’s scientific prowess and unwavering commitment to national security. While, Youm-e-Tashakkur (Day of Gratitude) honors the success of Operation “Bunyan Al Marsoos”, a brave military response to aggression, where Pakistan’s armed forces heroically defended the homeland and earned global admiration.
The event was graced by Chief Guest Retired Air Marshal Masood Akhtar. He is the recipient of Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military), Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-i-Basalat. He has qualified many courses like command and staff, air staff (Turkey) and armed forces war. During his career he has commanded a squadron, fighter wing and an operational base.
The first-year MBBS students took the lead and captivated the audience with their patriotic performances, including milli naghmas, speeches and heartfelt poetry that highlighted the nation’s spirit while praising the sacrifices of the armed forces. Athought-provoking panel talk on “Pakistan as a Nuclear Power: A Blessing or a Disaster?” sparked insightful discussions. Air Marshal Masood Akhtar inspired the audience with heroic stories of Pakistan’s soldiers, He highlighted how these achievements embody Pakistan’s “Unity, Faith, and Discipline”. The celebrations reinforced that Pakistan’s strength lies not just in its weapons, but in its people’s spirit and soldiers’ sacrifices. The event emphasized gratitude for the country’s sovereignty and the unwavering resolve of its people and defenders. Pakistan Zindabad!
