The sports team from Shifa College of medicine participated in the Lahore University Management and sciences (LUMS) sports fest held from Sunday 7th January 2018 to Wednesday 10th January 2018. Amongst the various sporting events being held, the team which comprised of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students participated in cricket, volleyball, swimming, tennis and futsal. Various colleges and universities from all over Pakistan participated in this event.
The sporting events held over 3 days comprised of group matches, quarter finals, semi finals and finals. The students displayed wonderful examples of talent and sportsmanship. The girls’ volleyball team made shifa proud by bagging the first place in an utterly masterful display, after losing the first set and subsequently falling behind in the second, they made a comeback and managed to claw the game back from four match points and win the set.
The girl’s futsal team also made a great account for themselves at LUMS. After two hard fought draws against strong, physical teams, namely GIKI (0-0) and LSE (1-1) respectively, the team made themselves a berth in the final. The final played out to a 0-0 draw, with 1st place up for grabs in a penalty shootout. Unfortunately, the opponent team managed to squeeze in 1 penalty, leaving Shifa with a silver medal to add to their collection.
The boys’ team participating in cricket and futsal also won numerous rounds of appreciation from the crowd for a wonderful display of effort but was unfortunately not able to secure any position.
Shifa College of medicine also had representation in tennis and swimming which was an amazing display of talent that we have amongst the students here.
