School visit of MBBS Class of 2026
Keeping the ongoing tradition of the Department of Community Medicines’ efforts toward encouraging students to partake in social welfare activities, a visit was planned for the students of 2nd Year MBBS by Dr Sajida Naseem, HOD Community Medicine and her team to the reputable Mashal Model Charity School, Nurpur Shahan Islamabad.
The two-day visit comprised students visiting the school and interacting with children of all ages and classes enrolled there. The students motivated by the cause gathered funds and donated with open hearts to acquire supplies for the children. With the accumulated funds, the students could gain nutritional medication for the children enrolled in the school and the faculty teaching there. This was coupled with distributing stationery, moisturisers and milk packs to the children.
Medication included Vitamins, Iron and Calcium supplements that are essential for these growing children. The teachers were also given Vitamin D supplements, Calcium and Iron tablets to improve their health as they were crucial members of that school’s work.
The students of 2nd Year MBBS divided duties amongst themselves to set up various stations with a multitude of activities ranging from the general checkup, BMI check including mid-arm circumference, Snellen’s chart for a visual checkup to counselling of both children and the faculty regarding health and nutrition.
Not only was nutritional health emphasised, but mental and physical health were also prioritised. To achieve this, students engaged with the children in group sessions to discuss their lives and aspirations, coupled with extra-curricular activities.
The students welcomed such visits and were grateful to the department of Community Medicine for enabling them with such an opportunity.
