Shifa College of Medicine recently welcomed its new MBBS class with an exciting Ice-Breaking activity on the 9th of February, 2023. It was organised by the EOM course director, Prof Dr Ashram Hussain, Professor of Anatomy; the co-course director, Dr Waqas Rabbani, Assistant Professor of Behavioural Sciences; and Team 1, Dr Hassan Mustafa, Dr Sumera Khalil, Dr Sania Muslim, Dr Sarah Hayat, Dr Amna Saeed Khan, Dr Ammara Yousaf, Dr Mariam Nadeem Khan, Dr Saad Iqbal and Dr Amna Sarwar, and the Department of Health Professions Education.
The event aimed to help the students acclimate to their new surroundings, build relationships with their peers, and establish a sense of community within the class. The activity featured various engaging and interactive games designed to promote teamwork, communication, and evidence-based practice. One of the event’s highlights was the Chinese Whisper game. Students passed along a message from one person to another, highlighting the importance of effective communication and explicit evidence-based information sharing.
In addition, a voluntary singing activity was also included to help students overcome their stage fear and to boost their confidence, which is a crucial element in the medical profession. The students enthusiastically participated and expressed their emotions through song, showcasing their hidden talent.
Lastly, the team-based game Pictionary was also a hit with the students, as they collaborated and competed with each other to develop their teamwork and communication skills.
The Ice-Breaking activity was a great success, with students and faculty thoroughly enjoying the event. It allowed the students to get to know each other better and feel more comfortable in their new environment, setting the stage for a productive and successful academic year ahead.
