Foreign Broadcast Information Services (FBIS) Daily Reports, 1941-1996  

The largest searchable depository of news media as it was reported in country and around the world. The repository consists of news collected from a division of the CIA, the Foreign Broadcast Information Services, TV broadcasts, radio transmissions and government speeches USA for intelligence purposes. It is specifically important for 20th Century China studies because it makes it possible for researchers to evaluate how news were reported in the local media, and the difference in perspectives as they were reported in other parts of the world.

Global Economic Monitor (GEM)  

Provides daily updates of global economic developments, with coverage of high income- as well as developing countries. Daily data is provided for exchange rates, equity markets, interest rates, stripped bond spreads, commodity prices and emerging market bond indices. IMF Balance of Payment Statistics

MathSciNet indexes and abstracts journals, books, and proceedings in mathematics. The database covers from 1940 to the present and is updated daily.

New Left Review  

New left review published every two months from London. National Trade Data Bank -The Export Connection 

National Trade Data Bank (NTDB) surveys the economic and demographic conditions of over 250 countries using the central intelligence agency World Factbook. It reviews market research reports from U.S. foreign commercial service and gets exchange and interest rate data from Federal Reserve Board. It also includes the census data on Merchandise Trade Exports and Imports. NTDB spots trends and identifies markets, the data is arrayed two ways: by country of origin or destination for each commodity, listed by 10-digit harmonized system code, and by top 100 commodities traded with each country. It also gives the Foreign Traders Index.

UNIDO Industrial Statistics Database  

The database contains time series data starting with 1981 to the latest available year for approximately 102 countries. The data is arranged according to the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) at the 4-digit level, which provides for the inclusion of 81 industries in the manufacturing sector. Information is presented by country, year, and industry. Each of the following items is covered: number of establishments, employment, wages and salaries, output, value added, gross fixed capital formation, and number of female employees. The data is originally stored in national currency values at the current process. The system allows for data conversion from national currency into current U.S. dollars using the average period exchange rates as given in the International Financial Statistics (IFS).

UNdata - a data access system to UN databases  

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) launched a new internet-based data service for the global user community. It brings UN statistical databases within easy reach of users through a single entry point. Users can now search and download a variety of statistical resources of the UN system. United Nations Official Documents System Database (ODS)

United Nations Treaty Collection Database (UNTC)

World Development Indicators  

This a resource where World Bank's premier data on development is compiled. It is a collection of statistical data and commentary. It focuses on people, economy, environment, states and markets, and global links. The CD-ROM contains a database of more than 550 indicators selected from a time series database of 40 years and 208 countries, where data is available. It also contains the full text of WDI book. The data can be exported in several formats. WDI 2003 has a new user-friendly interface.

Community College Open Textbook Collaborative (CCOTC), funded by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, is a collection of colleges, governmental agencies, educational nonprofits, and other education-related organizations. The collaborative provides training for instructors adopting open resources, peer reviews of open textbooks, an online professional network, support for authors opening their resources, and other services.

Global Text Project: The project will create open content electronic textbooks that will be freely available from a website. Distribution will also be possible via paper, CD, or DVD. Our goal initially is to focus on content development and Web distribution, and we will work with relevant authorities to facilitate dissemination by other means when bandwidth is unavailable or inadequate. The goal is to make textbooks available to the many who cannot afford them.

DiscoverEd is an experimental project from ccLearn which attempts to provide scalable search and discovery for educational resources on the web. Metadata, including the license and subject information available, are exposed in the result set. We are particularly interested in open educational resources (OER) and are collaborating with other OER projects to improve search and discovery capabilities for OER, using DiscoverEd and other available tools.

Index Islamicus: Index Islamicus is the international classified bibliography of publications in European languages on all aspects of Islam and the Muslim world, from archaeology to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, from Iran to Muslim minorities in the USA. Provides access to 377,000 records and covers over 3,000 periodicals. Available in the library as CD-ROM version.

International Political Science Abstracts (IPSA): This authoritative CD-ROM database from the International Political Science Association provides abstracts of political science articles published in scholarly journals and yearbooks worldwide. Topics include method and theory; political thinkers and ideas; political and administrative institutions; political processes (public opinion, attitudes, parties, forces, groups, and elections); international relations; and national and area studies. International Political Science Abstracts is the global standard for scholarly research in the field. Approximately 95% of the records include abstracts, with most written in English. The remaining abstracts (approx. 5%) are in French (for articles in languages other than English).

RePEc: RePEc (Research Papers in Economics) is a collaborative effort of hundreds of volunteers in 70 countries to enhance the dissemination of research in economics. The heart of the project is a decentralized database of working papers, journal articles and software components. All RePEc material is freely available. NAL AGRICOLA: AGRICOLA (AGRICultural OnLine Access) serves as the catalog and index to the collections of the National Agricultural Library, as well as a primary public source for world-wide access to agricultural information. The database covers materials in all formats and periods, including printed works from as far back as the 15th century. CiteSeerX: CiteSeer is a scientific literature digital library and search engine that focuses primarily on the literature in computer and information science. CiteSeer aims to improve the dissemination and feedback of the scientific literature and to provide improvements in functionality, usability, availability, cost, comprehensiveness, efficiency, and timeliness in the access of scientific and scholarly knowledge. CiteSeer was developed in 1997 at the NEC Research Institute, Princeton, New Jersey, by Steve Lawrence, Lee Giles and Kurt Bollacker. The service is provided free of charge by the college, and is available to members both within and outside of the Calvin community.

JabRef: an open source bibliography reference manager. The native file format used by JabRef is BibTeX, the standard LaTeX bibliography format. JabRef runs on the Java VM (version 1.5 or newer), and should work equally well on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
