As part of Independence Day celebrations at Shifa college of Medicine, a guest lecture by Ms.  Humaira Masihuddin on, “Iqbal’s Khudi: The Phenomenon of Self” was conducted for students of second year MBBS, in NEURO Module, on Friday, August 22, 2025. Under the lead of Prof Dr Ashraf Hussain, the lecture was organised by Dr Umme Kulsoom Khattak in the longitudinal theme of Pakistan Studies. Ms. Humaira is an expert advocate and a competent victimologist. She works as a visiting faculty in several prestigious law enforcement and security training schools.  She frequently provides training sessions on diverse topics with a special focus on Rumi, Islamic teachings, Human Rights, Rights of Minorities in Islam. The lecture focused on Iqbal’s concept of “Khudi”/Self phenomena and elaborated on the interplay between destiny and the individual self. Ms. Humaira illustrated the concept by reflecting on various excerpts from Iqbal’s poetry and explaining them excellently with passion and expertise. Students took keen interest and asked questions, enthusiastically participating throughout the session. Faculty members also attended the session with interest and appreciated it. She emphasized that Iqbal’s concept of Khudi is not merely a philosophical idea but a dynamic force that inspires personal growth, resilience and creativity among youth. Students were encouraged to recognize the power of self-realization and to channel it towards building confidence, character and a society grounded in dignity, purpose, and progress.
