UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE: A MIRAGE OR POSSIBILITY

The Department of Health Professions Education (DHPE) of Shifa Tameer-e-Miilat University (STMU) organized a hybrid webinar as a part of the faculty development program on Saturday, June 26, 2021. It was the 184th seminar/webinar of this series. The Vice-Chancellor of STMU and Dean Faculty of Health Sciences Shifa College of Medicine (SCM) and the Deans of the Allied Sciences also attended the webinar. The Dean and faculty of Peshawar Medical College also joined the webinar online. After a long period of online activities, some of the faculty members attended the seminar on-Campus, but most of the participants attended the event online to follow the SOPs. Dr Tahira Ayub from the DHPE moderated the session, welcomed and introduced the guest speaker Dr. Zafar Mirza, who has served as State Minister for Health. He also lead Pakistan’s national response to the first wave of covid-19 and he is currently working as an advisor to WHO on universal health coverage. The topic of the webinar was “UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE: A MIRAGE OR POSSIBILITY”. The objectives of the seminar were: –

  1. To introduce the concept and components of universal health coverage.
  2. To suggest methods to advance universal health coverage in the low resource setting
  3. To discuss the role that universities can play in promoting universal health coverage

 It was an interactive session and participants posted questions throughout the session. Moreover, a Q/A session was conducted at the end of the webinar. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Khan thanked the speaker for sparing her valuable time. The session ended with concluding remarks and Du’a by the Dean faculty of Health Sciences and Principal Shifa College of Medicine Dr. Mohammad Amir.
