Pharmacology, an essential component of the medical curriculum, is typically introduced in Year 3 of the MBBS program across most medical colleges in Pakistan. At Shifa College of Medicine, our department envisions equipping undergraduates with a comprehensive understanding of both basic and clinical Pharmacology. While our primary emphasis is on therapeutics and the principles underlying drug actions, we also focus on personalized medicine, pharmacovigilance, complementary and alternative medicine, patient counseling, clinical trial methodology, and the core skill of prescription writing.
We take pride in our pioneering approach, integrating Pharmacology into the medical curriculum, both horizontally and vertically. One of the remarkable achievements of the Pharmacology Department is the innovative integration of online formative assessments, a practice initiated in 2014. This forward-thinking approach revolutionized the learning experience for students, enabling continuous evaluation and feedback. Furthermore, the department adopted team-based learning as an effective pedagogical tool, fostering collaborative learning environments for students.
Our department is dedicated to research, actively conducting studies, and collaborating with other departments to advance the field of Pharmacology. The Department of Pharmacology has a well-equipped, state-of-the-art laboratory that enables the students to practice the essential skills before their application in the clinical setup.
