The Biochemistry Department at SCM is dedicated to delivering a top-tier academic experience that aligns with global standards. Our goal is to educate students in the fields of Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Genetics, and Molecular Biology. Biochemistry is taught in conjunction with other foundational and medical sciences to ensure students understand its clinical significance. This integrated approach not only sparks interest in the fundamental principles of Biochemistry but also enhances retention.
To deepen students’ understanding of disease mechanisms, we have incorporated Molecular Medicine into our curriculum, emphasizing the role of molecular biology advancements in diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases. The subject is taught through system-based modules, using a variety of teaching methods designed to engage and challenge students intellectually. These include lectures, group discussions, case-based learning, interactive sessions, and problem-based learning, all fostering active dialogue between students and faculty.
We promote independent thinking and encourage students to share their ideas in both group settings and classroom presentations. Our department boasts a team of highly qualified faculty members with PhDs and MPhils, many of whom have research experience from renowned universities and have contributed to international publications.
The Department is also home to the Prof. Syed Qamar Alam Library, which contains an extensive collection of reference books and journals focused on Biochemistry and Nutrition. Our advanced research facilities has instruments such as a High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) system with diode array detection and a Gas Chromatography (GC) system. We also maintain a PCR lab to support ongoing biochemical and molecular research.
