Message from the Chairperson DBS

The Department of Biosciences (DBS) at the Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University has been established with an aim to train and groom the bioscientists of the next generation. Being an established national leader in the field of clinical sciences including medicine, pharmacy, nursing, physical therapy and dentistry, STMU through the DBS is venturing in to training of basic and applied bio scientists who would be possessing the ability to translate the scientific concepts into useful products that can contribute to the betterment of the overall quality of life. Pakistan, being the fifth most populous country in the world with more than 20% of the population comprising of young adults, has the ability to produce the relevant human resource to establish itself as a world leader in the field of biological sciences.

An ever-increasing burden of disease, food security and climate change present not only a threat but also an opportunity to develop and emerge as a self-reliant nation capable of fulfilling the needs of the country. We aim to train our students to study, indigenize, develop and employ the latest technologies in all fields of biosciences including biotechnology, bioinformatics, microbiology, biomedical engineering, bioenvironmental sciences, plant sciences, bio nanotechnology and biochemistry, among others. With a well-trained faculty, internationally acceptable curriculum, strong industry-academia linkage and national and international collaborations, STMU would train the students of undergraduate and post-graduate programs in biosciences to develop effective researchers, academicians, entrepreneurs, writers, communicators, science diplomats, public health specialists and journalists.
