Faculty Department of Surgery

The faculty of Surgery and allied disciplines at Shia Tamer-e-Millet University helps students and residents to become thoughtful and enthusiastic learner. The dedicated team in the department of surgery offers extensive academic programmers for medical students, residents and fellows. Along with undergraduates training, post-graduation programmes are running in 6 disciplines of general surgery and allied. The department as a team provides a very comprehensive learning environment taught through clinical, didactic and skill sessions.
Our academic mission is to train the graduates as altruistic, humane, skillful and knowledgeable surgical leaders through the best clinical care and innovative research our aim is to train postgraduates and give insight to the undergraduates of all surgical treatments including minimally invasive techniques. Our residency programmers in all disciplines of surgery train residents as future responsible, skillful and independent specialists.
The department of surgery is training under and post graduates in various disciplines with state of the art procedures to fulfill the emerging needs of our community. Our devoted faculty has lots of contributions in the clinical research and there are lots of ongoing projects serving the humanity. As a nationally and internationally renowned center, our General Surgery team offers surgical care in all General Surgery specialist disciplines at the highest level. The department of General Surgery has internationally trained surgeons in the following fields.

• Bariatric Surgery and Upper GI Surgery
• Breast and Endocrine Surgery
• Colorectal Surgery
• Hepatobiliary  and Liver Transplant Surgery
• Surgical Oncology
• Vascular Surgery

MBBS PROGRAMME

The 3^rd, 4th and 5^{th year} MBBS students undergo extensive clerkship training programme in the department of general surgery. Shadowing the specialists and the consultants, they learn the management of the common surgical illnesses. The undergraduates are actually part of the treating teams, taking histories, learning clinical methods, eliciting various clinical signs and assisting surgical procedures. Our students practice the suturing and emergency skills on mannequin under supervision of skilled faculty. They follow the patient from ER/ OPD to the floors and in the post-operative recovery rooms. They learn evidence based medicine practices under supervision of highly dedicated faculty.

Our mission is to train the graduates as expert physicians of future, picking up the common surgical illnesses and being able to timely and appropriately referring the patients, actually making difference in patient care.

POST-GRADUATION PROGRAMME

Our residency programme in general surgery is fellowship progamme recognized by college of physicians and surgeons Pakistan. Our residents undergo extensive and comprehensive training of four years under supervision of a very dedicated team. Our residents are trained at advanced level in all aspects of General Surgery and its subdivisions i.e. Minimal Invasive Surgery, Bariatric and Upper GI Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Breast and Endocrine Surgery, HepatoBiliary Surgery and Vascular Surgery.

We train safe, skillful surgical specialists who practice evidence based medicine and enthusiastic learner as well. Many of our fellows are working as surgical specialists in UK, Ireland and USA.
