Shifa College of Medicine celebrated Pakistan Day with great enthusiasm and patriotism on Friday, March 22, 2024. On this day, college students and faculty came together to commemorate the Lahore Resolution of 1940, which laid the foundation for a separate homeland for Muslims in South Asia. Dr. Umme Kulsoom Khattak organized the celebration under the longitudinal theme of Pakistan Studies, which was steered by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Hussain.
The program started with Muhammad Muneeb Shahid reciting the Holy Quran. Manahil Rashid and Sahar Khalfay gorgeously hosted the program with the zeal of Pakistan Day 1940. It included a patriotic Mushaira between two students, Saad Tauheed Rao and Mubazir, reciting the motivational couplets of Allama Iqbal and conveying a message of hope to the Muslim youth. Arooj Asghar and Zaha Alvi amused the participants with their melodious voices by singing patriotic songs.
The zeal of Pakistan Day was shown by the innovative talent and passion of a moderated discussion among the students, announced by Salwa binte Afzal, showcasing Pakistan’s history and achievements. Furqan Ahmad Bashir moderated it, while Eshan Ahmad, Ali Mirza, Fatima Ameer, Rabia Waris, Syed Ali Gillani, and Maryyam Yousaf participated in the discussion. The discussion was based on three main themes:
1- Nationalism vs. Culturalism
2: Jinnah ka Pakistan
3- زرا نم ہو تو یہ مٹی بڑی زرخیز ہے، ساقی
The event ended with imperative closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Ashraf, who stressed unity among the nation and explained the relationship with the state. He also focused on the significance of debates among the youth in understanding and tackling the situation. He showed his contentment and trust in the youth of Pakistan.
The atmosphere was filled with pride, unity, and determination to uphold the ideals of freedom, democracy, and nationality.
