Tree plantation drives are essential to combat escalating environmental issues like deforestation and global warming. With their drive to improve the health and well-being of individuals and society, medical students are taking part in such initiatives. For this very cause, the community medicine department, under Dr Sajida Naseem’s supervision, hosted the annual Shifa tree plantation drive.

Notable members of STMU, including honourable VC Prof. Dr Iqbal, Dean/ Principal SCM Prof. Dr Amir, CDA Directorate, officials and staff. The faculty of SCM was also present on this occasion.
Students of 1st and 3rd Year MBBS graciously responded to this noble cause and generated over Rs 45,000/- in donations for the plantation of 100 melaleuca plants.

The event’s commencement was done by reciting a few verses of the Holy Quran by Saad Malik, 3rd Year MBBS, followed by remarks by the honourable VC and Dean/ Principal, respectively. This plantation coincided with the 25th Anniversary celebration of SCM. The growth and development of SCM and STMU over the years were highlighted as how years of hard work, determination and dedication have become a notable contender in the healthcare space, producing one of the finest doctors and medical staff that outshines themselves on the global scale. This was followed by tree plantation by the esteemed guests.

The drive aimed to plant as many trees as possible in the green belt to increase the green cover, reduce pollution, and provide a better living environment for the community. The students collaborated with the local municipal corporation, which provided them with the necessary permissions to carry out the drive successfully.

The tree plantation drive was a massive success, and the students planted hundreds of trees in the park. The drive contributed to the environment and raised awareness among the community about the importance of preserving nature. The drive highlighted the critical role of individuals and communities in protecting the environment and combating climate change. The medical students’ effort inspires others to take up similar initiatives to create a sustainable future for our planet.
