Pioneering PhD Program: Shifa College of Nursing Makes History at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University
The Shifa College of Nursing; a constituent college of the Shifa Tameer-e-University has been blessed to take the lead and offered the first PhD degree program of the University in 2020. In the 10th Convocation of the University held on March 02, 2024 two students of the 1st Cohort of Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing have completed their research endeavours leading to their PhD qualifications.
Employing a mixed methods research approach, Dr Aurangzeb developed an Evidence-based Bodyweight Management and Obesity Prevention Strategy for a Rural Community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This research was supervised by Prof. Dr. Abel Jacobus Pienaar, Prof. Dr. Khairunnisa Dhamani, and Prof. Dr. Erika Froelicher
Dr Kainat Asmat’s doctoral research involved development and testing of a patient-centered self-management intervention for adults with Type 2 Diabetes. This intervention aimed to enhance patients’ glycemic control, self-efficacy, and self-care behaviors. Efficacy of this intervention was tested through a multicenter randomized controlled trial in Faisalabad, Pakistan. This research was supervised by Prof. Dr. Khairunnisa Dhamani, Prof. Dr. Erika Froelicher, and Prof. Dr. Raisa Gul. Dr Kainat has been awarded distinction for her outstanding research work, which completed in 3.5 years.
