Master of Philosophy in Education
Programme Overview
The Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Education program, offered by the Department of Education (DoE) within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU), provides students with a robust foundation in research. This program is designed to equip participants with the ability to critically analyze key issues in education, ranging from classroom teaching challenges and institutional leadership to broader concerns related to educational policy and governance.
Upon successful completion of this Level-7 program, graduates will be able to function as independent researchers with a strong understanding of research ethics, advanced research methodologies, academic writing, and presentation skills. The M.Phil. in Education is tailored for individuals with the intellectual capacity for advanced research and a commitment to contributing to the future development of the education discipline.
Graduates of this program will be well-prepared for roles such as researchers, educational institution leaders, secondary and higher secondary school educators, university faculty members, and academic advisors in diverse educational contexts.
Programme Objectives
Upon successful completion of the Master of Philosophy in Education program, participants will be able to:
- Cultivate a critical and research-based understanding of educational development issues, with an emphasis on challenges prevalent in low- and middle-income
- Develop the skills and competencies required for leadership roles in planning, conducting, and disseminating research across diverse educational contexts.
- Specialize in areas such as research, education and development, educational processes, or other related fields aligned with their professional interests.
- Advance their careers by acquiring the expertise necessary for top leadership positions in educational organizations, universities, and NGOs.
Eligibility Criteria
- Masters / 16 years education
- Those who do not have prior qualification in education will do the deficiency courses in Bridging semester.
- Minimum 50/4.00 CGPA or 50% marks under annual system.
Admission Test: University is required to:
- Conduct a rigorous admission test as an eligibility condition for admission to MPhil/MS equivalent programs, with a passing score of 50% OR Accept GRE/HAT General/ Equivalent tests, with passing score of 50%.
- Rationale: In the previous eligibility criteria, the weightage of the admission test was 60%. Now, it has been aligned with the HEC Graduate Policy
Programme Structure
The MPhil programme is a two-year programme, requiring 24 credit hours of coursework and 6 credit hours of original research. Upon successful completion of coursework with minimum CGPA of 2.5 followed by review and approval of research work by internal and external reviewers and successful defense of the thesis, the candidate will be awarded the degree of the “Master of Philosophy in Education”.
