Department of Research and Development
The Department of Research and Development aims to promote research culture among students, teachers and faculty by encouraging research in newly emerging and challenging areas of dentistry and in its multidisciplinary specialties. It also aims to encourage sharing of the scientific research with wide audience to enhance the impact of research. Research Department of the Shifa College of Dentistry (SCD) is established to facilitate and train faculty members, students and teachers with the latest skills and expertise in their area of interest and with the objective of motivating and empowering every researcher. Following are the specific objectives of the SCD research department:
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- To develop interest and healthier atmosphere among the faculty members to take up research projects and improve their critical thinking ability.
- To assess and report any technical and ethical issues related to a research project.
- To provide necessary facilities to conduct high impact research and give researchers access to the research tools such as SPSS, Turnitin, Journal Citation Report, Web of Science and Scopus database.
- To guide students and faculty members in selection of research topic, preparation and facilitation.
- To work with various departments to establish and develop faculty research priorities in interdisciplinary areas.
- To organize and facilitate research workshops, seminars and scientific conferences within the institute and at national/international levels.
- To encourage staff members and students to publish scientific research papers in reputed national and international journals.
- To undertake research activities and development projects offered by the national and international funded organizations.
- To develop and coordinate strategies for maximizing the faculty’s success in gaining national and international research funding.
- To develop strategies to foster research collaborations within the faculty and across various dental and medical institutes.
- To create awareness regarding research and providing opportunities to develop research skills among the students, teachers & faculty.
- To keep track and record of publications made by the faculty.
- To publish research annual report of the college.

Shifa College of Dentistry Research Board (SCDRB)
The Shifa College of Dentistry Research Board (SCDRB) aims to create a conducive environment for promotion of research and innovation activities in the institute. The board oversees all the research activities at the Shifa College of Dentistry in accordance with the Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University’s policy, vision and goal.

Student Research Society
SRS Vision
The Student Research Society (SRS) is envisioned as a student-led body that provides a platform to the students at the Shifa College of Dentistry (SCD) to engage in explorative and fundamental research, and to collaborate with other research bodies to promote research culture among dental students
SRS Mission
SRS aims to develop research skills among dental students to conduct effective research independently. This research body is established to achieve the following objectives:
- To provide a platform that would allow young researchers to effectively match and connect with their mentors in the faculty.
- To allow students to engage in research collaborations with each other, faculty members and other institutes, to promote scientific practices, understanding of research methodologies, evidence-based investigations and critical analysis of existing research and literature.
- To provide research tools to the researchers and develop research skills of the students by organising research development workshops and seminars.
- To improve efficiency of research and technical events of students research (SR)
- To coordinate with SCD to facilitate students in presenting and publishing their research projects in national and international conferences and journals.
- To provide incentives to the students to engage in research. These incentives may include opportunities to compete for awards, scholarships, research funding and other opportunities that would be announced at the end of the previous academic year.
- To provide assistance to students in conducting independent scientific research.
