Oral medicine is the discipline of dentistry concerned with the diagnosis and management of medical conditions that affect the oral and maxillofacial region such as; oro-facial pain, oral manifestations of systemic diseases, salivary gland disorders, and the management of medically compromised patients with oral health issues by non-surgical management.
The students are required to have a comprehensive understanding of oro-facial diseases and oral manifestations of systemic diseases, and accordingly, the investigations required and their non-surgical treatment. They are also required to know about medical emergencies and their management.
The Department of Oral Medicine is located on the ground floor and equipped with three dental units and facilities that are required to investigate, diagnose, and non-surgically manage the diseases of the orofacial region.
The Oral Medicine Department at Shifa College of Dentistry strives to be a global leader in the diagnosis and management of disorders in the orofacial complex whose treatment may fall between medicine and dentistry.
Our department is determined to make students completely aware of the prevalent diseases in Pakistan so that they can play an active and successful role in the betterment of our society.
We are planning to start the MDS program in Oral medicine shortly and promote research activities.
We will conduct conferences, seminars, and workshops to keep the knowledge up to date in the field of Oral medicine.
