Introduction

The Department of Medical and Dental Education (DME) is the hub of all curricular activities at Shifa College of Dentistry. DME oversees various aspects of curriculum delivery, assessments, student training, educational research, and scholarship. DME plays a central role in the development of the curriculum, reviewing and revising the curriculum for quality assurance, and evaluating the educational program for necessary advancements and innovations.

The department also actively contributes towards continuous professional development activities by organizing regular faculty development workshops aiming to train the faculty members to deliver quality education. These workshops focus on training the faculty in active learning strategies including small group discussion, problem-based learning, case-based learning, etc. Alongside this, DME strives to improve the assessment processes at SCD by implementing measures to incorporate quality assurance measures in assessment processes and introducing innovative methods of student assessments.

Aim

The department aims at promoting faculty development, curriculum development, and improvement in student assessment plans. Faculty development workshops are conducted to help continuous professional development of faculty members.

Future Plans

The department holds a vision to incorporate innovations in the curriculum delivery and assessment processes to enhance the learning experience of the students through interdisciplinary learning and practicing innovative teaching strategies. The aim is to prepare the students and faculty to stay on par with the ever-evolving domain of medicine and dentistry. The faculty development program shall be enhanced to promote the professional development of the faculty in different aspects of teaching.
